Jewelry Deserves Special Care

Small items can carry great value — both sentimental and financial. Because of that, jewelry should always be handled thoughtfully and without rushing.

Start With a Trusted Jeweler

Before including fine jewelry in an estate sale, we strongly recommend visiting a respected local jeweler. A professional jeweler can confirm metals, identify stones, and help you avoid costly assumptions.

  • Confirm metal type (gold, silver, platinum)
  • Identify genuine stones versus glass or synthetics
  • Check hallmarks and maker’s marks
  • Spot repairs, alterations, or missing stones
  • Advise whether a piece should be sold, insured, or kept

If an item feels important or valuable, it deserves an expert look first.

The Same Rule Applies to Fine Art

Expensive artwork follows the same principle. If a piece appears significant, has a known artist/signature, or simply feels “too important to guess on,” we recommend consulting a qualified art professional or appraiser before including it in the sale.

When in doubt, pause — there is no downside to being careful.

Not All Jewelry Is the Same

Jewelry varies widely, even when pieces look similar: costume vs. precious metal, natural stones vs. glass, signed designer vs. unmarked pieces. Appearance alone isn’t a reliable indicator of value.

How We Handle Jewelry Within EZR

Once items are confirmed or appropriate for sale, we handle them with care:

  • Logged intentionally
  • Matching pieces kept together
  • Sets staged as sets
  • Pricing kept conservative when uncertainty exists
  • Small items grouped to reduce loss and confusion

When Extra Steps Are Appropriate

Some pieces may warrant:

  • Separate display
  • Removal from the sale entirely
  • Family discussion before proceeding
  • Referral to a specialist or appraiser

We respect those decisions completely.

A Gentle Rule of Thumb

If you’re unsure about a piece: don’t clean it, don’t separate it, and don’t guess its value. Set it aside and we’ll help you decide the next step calmly and clearly.

Care First. Decisions Second.

Jewelry — like expensive artwork — is never rushed through our process.
